Thanks to all of you who have called or written with encouragement—and concerns—about the 2020 PEI Convention. It’s a challenging and confusing year, for sure. Here are answers to the questions we are most frequently asked:
Will PEI have a convention this year? Yes. PEI’s constitution requires that the association hold an annual convention and membership meeting. We also believe that during this tumultuous year it is more important than ever for the industry to come together. At present, our plans are to hold the 2020 Convention in Las Vegas, Oct. 11-14, in connection with the NACS Show.
What’s the status of preregistrations? Nearly 700 members already have registered for Las Vegas—including more than 400 in just the last three weeks. The totals at this early stage are close to the numbers we see in a “typical” year. Whenever you are curious about registration status, you can find the real-time attendee list here.
How is the trade show looking? At present, 92% of the net square footage in the Fuel Equipment & Services area of the NACS Show is sold. NACS has announced several special policies to help exhibitors reduce their financial risks. And individual exhibitors are reworking their usual timelines, adjusting booth personnel plans and developing other creative strategies to manage their investments.
Are you 100% certain the show will go on in Las Vegas? No. One big variable is the pace at which Nevada will move through its “safe reopening” plan. Other variables are COVID infection trends, vaccine/treatment progress and travel restrictions. PEI and NACS are monitoring each key variable every day.
What will PEI do if the Las Vegas convention is cancelled? The PEI staff is developing plans for a virtual convention and membership meeting that would leverage technology to create an exciting, engaging and educational online experience.
When will you make a final decision on Las Vegas? At this point, it’s impossible to say, but we will make the final decision as quickly as possible. And, of course, if governmental decisions or directives preclude us from holding the convention in Las Vegas, we will immediately inform the industry.
How can I keep up to date on convention plans and developments? Check PEI’s complete COVID-19 FAQs and the current Las Vegas Convention Center Health & Safety protocols, both of which will be refined as the show date approaches. Additional updates will be distributed through the TulsaLetter, News from PEI, PEI Industry Alerts, PEI’s social media accounts and other association communication channels.
Should I preregister or wait to make a last-minute decision on whether I will attend? It’s up to you. However, advance registration will save $150 per person. Advance registration also will allow us to mail all registration materials directly to you, so that you can bypass the onsite registration desk.
Will I receive a refund from PEI if the convention is cancelled? Yes. If the Las Vegas convention is cancelled, you’ll receive a full refund of your registration fee. If you choose, you will be able to apply a portion of your refund to the registration fee for the PEI virtual convention.
What if I preregister but ultimately decide not to attend? If the Las Vegas convention goes on, but you decide not to attend for any reason, you can receive a full refund, minus a $25 administrative fee, as late as Sept. 21.
