Dana Schmidt, a standards engineer with the Steel Tank Institute (STI)/Steel Plate Fabricators Association (SPFA), retired from her position Nov. 1. She worked 21 years with the organization.
Schmidt was instrumental in advancing STI/SPFA shop-fabricated aboveground storage tank technologies, particularly the Fireguard, Flameshield, Gen-Base Tank and rectangular double- walled tanks. She served on technical committees of other associations such as API, PEI and Underwriters Laboratories throughout her career.
She regularly advised environmental regulators and other authorities having jurisdiction on tank construction, installation and inspection issues.
She also contributed to the STI SP001 AST Inspection Standard, a guidance document many tank owners use to comply with EPA SPCC regulations.
