Funeral services for Lawrence C. Kovarik, 77, of Grand Forks, North Dakota, were held Jan. 7 at Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks. Burial will follow in the spring at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery in Bechyne, North Dakota.
Kovarik died Jan. 1, 2020, at Valley Senior Living Center in Grand Forks.
He was born June 18, 1942, in Grafton, North Dakota, to Charley and Lydia (Waith) Kovarik. Growing up, he worked on family farms. He went to college and then worked in autobody shops in Grafton and Minot before moving to Grand Forks.
He started working in the petroleum business in the 1960s. He married the former Darlene Pich on April 8, 1964. In 1984, he and Steve Sulland started Valley Petroleum Equipment, which they owned and operated until his retirement.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing and spending time by the pool with family and friends.
Loving survivors include: three children, Shelly (Jerry) Yohe, of Cave Creek, Arizona; Sheri (Eric) Anderson, of Grand Forks; and Jared Kovarik, of South St. Paul, Minnesota; five grandchildren; and his siblings: Dennis (Marlene) Kovarik, of Lankin, North Dakota; Kathy (Jim) Drevecky and JoAnn Bylin, all of Adams, North Dakota; and Marge Bina and Stan Kovarik, both of Grand Forks.
He was preceded in death by Darlene, his wife of 52 years; and two brothers-in-law, Kim Bylin and Jack Bina.
