Hi,

I am having an issue with my ruby cash drawer (I think I have a Topaz Cash Drawer hooked onto my Ruby Supersystem). The part number on it is T215-9-BL616. This is the problem:

I accidentally removed the communications line for my cash drawer (thinking that it was the telephone line) then plugged it back in. Now my cash drawer wont close. When I try to close it, the register forces the cash drawer to open back up. Despite this, my register will still let me ring up sales as if the cash drawer is closed. I don't know what to do at this point and any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: I also tried changing the number of cash drawers to 2 and then using com port 2 for my cash register. This also produced the same result with the cash drawer staying open and not closing.

Thanks,
Fred.

Is the key/lock in the vertical position?

Plugging the cash Drawer adapter in "HOT" can destroy it.

Yes, the key/lock is in the vertical position.

And I did make the mistake of plugging the adapter in hot. Is there anyway for me to know that it's definitely the adapter that got burnt out...

I have also uploaded a picture of my cash drawer lock here:

Thanks for the help...

When you burnt out the adapter, normally, it just tells you to close the drawer.
It popping the drawer back open is not a normal failure.
Did you look inside to see if money is blocking the latch?

I can't see any money blocking the latch but I also tried this just now:

I took out the cash drawer cable, now my cash drawer closed up just fine. But as soon as I plug the cable back in, my cash drawer opens up and then it doesn't want to close back up again.

What do you think? Do you know of any place/website which can get me this adapter ASAP? I am located near Charlottesville, Virginia by the way...

Fred.

You definitely blew the adapter, replace it. Don't plug the drawer in hot.

I agree with 405pumptech1! Plugging in that adapter hot will give those exact symptoms. Get a new adapter, and power down the Ruby before plugging in the adapter/cash drawer.

I have seen this be cause a corrupt file on the ruby as well. CVXPAK was the last I saw it on, but that doesn't mean it won't happen otherwise
