I'm inspecting sumps at gas stations, who here has a method to pick up those heavy iron lids, I now use a hook on the lid and try to swing the lids around to remove them. This is very difficult at times when the lids don't move easy. Then you have to bang on them to loosen them up some just to move.

Is there some type of jack that lifts the lid?

Or what method does anyone here use other than Superman Strenght?

Thanks,
Mark

Google "manhole cover lifter" We have a tool that I am told works very well, but when I tried to look it up I found links to many devices, some fancier than others. Some are dollies. The one we have has a hooked shape that serves as a fulcrum and a little kickstand.

Muscles. Sometimes you just gotta manhandle them. Watch your back. I've daggered mine a few times.

Bang on them? On a warm day man-hole or man-way, large or small, just let a bag of ice sit on them for a few minutes. They almost always just pop up with no effort. In most cases the ice is free.

I'll take any lid but the old Environ black plastic lid and skirts. Those are the worst.

We have a manhole lifter with a magnet on it. It is a back saver. Costs around 1200.

Ice? Never tried that,
right now - the magnet looks promising,

anything would help if you are lifting these every day, at two to three gas stations per day.
