A common question on this site is "does anyone have an old parts breakdown for an XXX or an old programming manual?", etc. It would be nice if PEI had a library (password protected for PEI members only) that includes PDFs of various manuals, current and archive. Due to copyrights, we could get the manufacturers to OK before anything was uploaded. Would save them calls to the help lines! Many already have these freely available for download on their sites, but not always the archive versions.

Any thoughts?

Sounds like an excellent idea, but how to keep it secure is the question.

I think this sounds like an idea worth pursuing. It would be a simple thing to password protect for PEI members on the PEI web site. How to get started is the key.

How would you suggest PEI go about collecting/assembling these? Should we ask members (as a service to the industry) to send us the documentation they happen to have on hand? Would manufacturers be the best contact? Are there some documents that are absolutely "must-haves"?

I have a very big collection of manuals in PDF, and I know that Doc does too. But maybe we post a poll about this to make sure everyone thinks its a good idea. And then after that's confirmed, start an email thread of the "must haves" by both manufacturer and product line.

This is a great idea, but would almost take a full time person to organize and update.

Excellent idea, but for security purposes, pei should keep in
secure record, upon request of related field member upon
charge, provide the copy would be more portective way.
What about one specific item manufacturer get the manuals, make
the copy and provide to non register peoples or co's.
Member register time and field is the basic key point.
