Soffit

An architectural term that describes the underside of a projection. The underside of an overhanging eave on a house, for example, is the soffit. In petroleum marketing, the term is used to identify the exposed portion of the underside of a gasoline station roof, the portion that projects out over the side of the building, or the underside of a gas station canopy.
